Judgment on Herod’s Throne

King Herod sits slumped upon a royal throne as flames rise around the seat of power, while pale robed figures stand like heavenly witnesses on either side. The composition evokes the biblical judgment in Acts 12, when Herod Agrippa received the praise of the crowd as though he were divine and was struck by an angel of the Lord because he did not give glory to God. The burning throne becomes a visual sermon on the limits of earthly rule: authority, honor, and public acclaim cannot stand before the holiness of God when they become idolatry.
